This year, Foursquare Day in San Francisco will be about more than stealing mayor titles and collecting badges.

Foursquare Day, to be appropriately celebrated this Saturday on the 16th day (literally, four squared) of the 4th month of the year, originally began as a globally-celebrated day for fans of the social media platform to come together and celebrate all things Foursquare while also checking-in with local businesses.

This year, San Francisco’s Foursquare Day, officially hosted by Pacific Catch Restaurants, and co-hosted by local culinary consulting group The Culinary Edge, will use the holiday and power of social media as a means to raise money to support Japanese Earthquake Relief.

“In year’s past, we have celebrated Foursquare Day simply as a way to connect with fellow Foursquare users and unlock coveted badges.  However, in light of the recent events in Japan we felt that we had to do something,” says Chamin Mills, marketing and events manager at Pacific Catch.

Much like last year, the San Francisco’s official Foursquare Day party will be taking place at Pacific Catch’s Ninth Avenue location with hopes of unlocking a “Super Swarm” badge. However, this year’s celebration is much bigger with an outdoor BBQ, live band, beer and wine booths and 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to the American & Japanese Red Cross to help rebuild those areas affected by last month’s earthquake.

To raise money, party-goers will be able to purchase food, drink, & the official “4sqdaySF” t-shirts:

Beer provided by Sapporo, Sierra Nevada, Lost Coast and Lagunitas

Request for Mayor Lee to Proclaim April 16th Foursquare Day in San Francisco. Support Local Businesses!

April 4, 2011

Dear Mayor Lee,

We’re writing you today to ask for your proclamation of April 16, 2011 to be Foursquare Day in San Francisco. The date’s significance as 4/16, which is the number four squared, has gained Global recognition in the past year and is now celebrated with more than 300 events and check-in specials all over the world. Seven cities have already made this proclamation and many more are joining the list. We would like San Francisco to be one of them.

Foursquare is more than just an exciting social media application; it also fosters local growth in the business community. Many businesses leverage Foursquare’s free ability to offer specials for “checking-in” to their location. This valuable, economical tool has evolved into a great way businesses of any size, can reward loyal customers and build awareness in their community.

The official 2011 Foursquare Day slogan, “When the World is your Venue”, is truly being embraced by the 4sqdaySF community. This year a fundraising component has been added where 100% of the proceeds from the main event’s food, beverage, raffle and tee shirt sales will be donated to the American and Japanese Red Cross. San Francisco will be checking-in locally April 16th while also checking-in with Japan and our global community.

As the official Mayor of San Francisco, on behalf of the city’s large number of Foursquare users and social media savvy sophisticates, we find it appropriate to designate April 16th Foursquare Day. With your help we can use Foursquare Day as a way to drive support to our local business community and help the San Francisco Foursquare community discover fun, new ways to explore our great city.

Signed on behalf of the 4sqdaySF planning committee,

Chamin Mills

Join us for our Tsunami Relief Fundraiser on Foursquare Day from 1:00-5:00 pm at our Ninth Avenue location (1200 9th Avenue) in San Francisco.

Foursquare Day or “4sqday” is celebrated on April 16th and has grown to be a worldwide event celebrating the power of social media and connecting with communities.  In 2010, over 300 different events and check-in specials were planned around the world.

We will be hosting our 2nd annual event this year—surprisingly the only SF business to do so. For this year’s event, we have added a charitable fundraising component to further spread the theme of “Connecting with the Community.” The restaurant will be partnering with local vendors as well as its sister- company, SF-based culinary consultancy, The Culinary Edge, to raise money for Japan earthquake relief.

The event will feature:

“Pacific Catch-style” barbeque

Our signature “Buzz Cocktail, beer, wine and select non-alcoholic beverages

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 16th, 2011

Pacific Catch Restaurants have announced that, on April 16th, its Ninth Avenue location will host an Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fundraiser in honor of Foursquare Day.

Foursquare Day or “4sqday” is celebrated on April 16th and has grown to be a worldwide event celebrating the power of social media and connecting with communities.

In 2010, Pacific Catch was one of the first to join Foursquare Day creator, Nate Bonilla-Warford of Tampa, in hosting a 4sqday Swarm Badge party.  Over 300 events were set up all over the globe in honor of Foursquare Day.  Pacific Catch’s event specifically resulted in over 100 guest check-ins.

For this year’s event, Pacific Catch will be adding a charitable fundraising component to further spread the theme of “Connecting with the Community.”  The restaurant will be partnering with Sapporo Beer as well as it’s sister-company, SF-based culinary consultancy, The Culinary Edge to raise money for the Northern Japan’s earthquake and tsunami relief and rebuilding efforts.

“After talking to our partner at Sapporo and hearing about how their company has personally experienced loss through the recent tragedy, we no longer needed to figure out who we were partnering with,” says Chamin Mills, Marketing Manager & Event Planner for Pacific Catch.

Proceeds from Sapporo beer sales, the sale of the limited-edition “4sqdaySF” tee shirts as well as a raffle from local San Francisco businesses will be donated to help sustain and rebuild Japan.

The event will also feature a “Pacific Catch-style” barbeque featuring grilled tacos, beer & wine, live music provided by Latin Reggae/salsa band, Manicato, as well as a special “Super Swarm” period between 2:00-4:00 pm where guests will gather to check-in with hopes of unlocking the much coveted “Super Swarm” badge.

The 2nd Annual Pacific Catch Foursquare Day celebration will take place on Saturday, April 16th from 1:00-5:00 pm at Pacific Catch’s Ninth Avenue location (1200 9th Avenue) in San Francisco.
