SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 16th, 2011

Pacific Catch Restaurants have announced that, on April 16th, its Ninth Avenue location will host an Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fundraiser in honor of Foursquare Day.

Foursquare Day or “4sqday” is celebrated on April 16th and has grown to be a worldwide event celebrating the power of social media and connecting with communities.

In 2010, Pacific Catch was one of the first to join Foursquare Day creator, Nate Bonilla-Warford of Tampa, in hosting a 4sqday Swarm Badge party.  Over 300 events were set up all over the globe in honor of Foursquare Day.  Pacific Catch’s event specifically resulted in over 100 guest check-ins.

For this year’s event, Pacific Catch will be adding a charitable fundraising component to further spread the theme of “Connecting with the Community.”  The restaurant will be partnering with Sapporo Beer as well as it’s sister-company, SF-based culinary consultancy, The Culinary Edge to raise money for the Northern Japan’s earthquake and tsunami relief and rebuilding efforts.

“After talking to our partner at Sapporo and hearing about how their company has personally experienced loss through the recent tragedy, we no longer needed to figure out who we were partnering with,” says Chamin Mills, Marketing Manager & Event Planner for Pacific Catch.

Proceeds from Sapporo beer sales, the sale of the limited-edition “4sqdaySF” tee shirts as well as a raffle from local San Francisco businesses will be donated to help sustain and rebuild Japan.

The event will also feature a “Pacific Catch-style” barbeque featuring grilled tacos, beer & wine, live music provided by Latin Reggae/salsa band, Manicato, as well as a special “Super Swarm” period between 2:00-4:00 pm where guests will gather to check-in with hopes of unlocking the much coveted “Super Swarm” badge.

The 2nd Annual Pacific Catch Foursquare Day celebration will take place on Saturday, April 16th from 1:00-5:00 pm at Pacific Catch’s Ninth Avenue location (1200 9th Avenue) in San Francisco.

Seafood Trends: Raw, Whole and Tacos

By Fiona Robinson, SeaFood Business editor in chief  3/15/2010 6:34:23 PM

Consumers may see more use of raw fish, whole fish, fish tacos and all-in-one pot feasts at restaurants in the future, according to Aaron Noveshen, founder of The Culinary Edge in San Francisco.

Noveshen outlined what suppliers and manufacturers can expect for upcoming restaurant trends during yesterday’s conference session, “Coast to Coast Innovation: Five Profit-Driving Trends from America’s Top Independent Seafood Restaurants.”

The first trend is raw seafood, including sushi, crudo and ceviche. The latest product development in this area has been crudo, menued at such upscale restaurants as Esca in New York and Bar Crudo in San Francisco. Crudo is raw fish either paired with other flavors or slightly marinated or garnished. As of this month, there are 92 menus in New York mentioning crudo, according to TCE Research.
