I’ll Walk the Dog Honey:
Who could have predicted that our recent volunteer outing would end up conflicting with Game One of the World Series? Needless to say, I was incredibly touched when every single one of the team members who had signed up to garden in the park actually arrived! We took on the very same clearing as last time, the one bordered by 7th Avenue and Lincoln Blvd, and we made some serious progress. On our initial outing there, we weeded, patched up the grass and encircled the trees with flowers and wood shavings. This time around, we actually carved a walking path through the meadow and cleared away enough underbrush to camouflage a tank, otherwise known as some lucky park-goers’ silver Acura… James, our park liaison, had chosen this particular spot near to our restaurant so that we could see the difference we had made there every time we walked past it. Now that we’ve put a few group efforts into the spot, he’s begun to envision a Pacific Catch “under the sea” theme for that chunk of the park - complete with leafy seaweed-like bushes and coral-colored flowers. A few more trips and we’ll have that new trail running from the end of the dog-run, practically straight up onto our pup friendly patio… and what better reason for walking your dog than a margarita waiting at the end of the road?
