Yelp’s Holiday Hangover Night 3: Silent Storm Sound System’s Neon Beat @ Big Daddy’s 1.11.12

Written by Alyssa Arian from 9th Ave.

Take an impressive antique warehouse, fill it with delicious drinks, scrumptious snacks, decadent desserts, and silent dancing, and what do you get? – A happy crowd. Wednesday was the third night of Yelp’s annual 5-night Holiday Hangover party, held at Big Daddy’s Antiques. Each night’s different theme was reflected in the vendors’ products and attendees’ outfits. I came along as part of the Pacific Catch team and was glad to see a variety of great offerings from local businesses. Companies such as Skyy and Rye on the Road kicked off the night with creative cocktails like “Woo Hoo’s” and sparkling Long Islands. Near our booth was Eat Curbside - with a line that never seemed to shorten. Puccini & Pinetti featured beef carpaccio crostini with horseradish goat cheese and vegetable skewers. Guests were treated to delicate rolled Jewish pastries called Rugelach, provided by Doll’s Kitchen, in two flavors: chocolate-raspberry and apricot-raisin. I was thrilled to indulge in Neo Cocao’s exquisite shell-less truffles in a variety of flavors (the fresh ginger truffle was especially impressive). Polkadotties Cookies delighted the crowd with their macaroons, shortbread, and what was probably the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve encountered. Silent Storm Sound System put a fun twist on the music by providing headphones that played three different music channels: a playlist and two in-house DJs. The highlight of the night was seeing a group of people dancing together in a silent room. And there was no need to fear the fun being forgotten; thanks to Snap Fiesta, you could capture the best moments with their interactive photo booth. They provided wigs, glasses, and other costume props that were well received among the photo booth-goers. Snap Fiesta also set up a pedal that allowed everyone to control the timing of their own shots! It was definitely a hit. From the food to the drinks, the music, the photos, and the endless array of interesting antique items at the venue, Wednesday night’s party was a great time. It reflected Yelp’s passion for connecting local businesses and community. I’m already looking forward to next year’s party.

On April 16th Pacific Catch 9th Ave. turned the back parking lot into a festive BBQ celebration for Foursquare Day. Yes Foursquare!  The fun geolocation phone app that helps users explore their community and offers businesses a way to connect with guests in real time.

The 2nd annual Pacific Catch @4sqdaySF event celebrated all things Foursquare but also brought the local community together to give back.  Neighbors and partners of Pacific Catch donated their time and goods so 100% of the proceeds from wine, beer, tacos, t-shirt and raffle ticket sales could be donated to the American Red Cross, Japan Tsunami & Earthquake relief.

$3953 was raised during the event, our friends at Hahn Winery wrote a check for $640 and then our gracious partners at Sapporo matched $2000 totaling $6593.

To see pictures or post your own from the event, go to the Pacific Catch Facebook page.

This year, Foursquare Day in San Francisco will be about more than stealing mayor titles and collecting badges.

Foursquare Day, to be appropriately celebrated this Saturday on the 16th day (literally, four squared) of the 4th month of the year, originally began as a globally-celebrated day for fans of the social media platform to come together and celebrate all things Foursquare while also checking-in with local businesses.

This year, San Francisco’s Foursquare Day, officially hosted by Pacific Catch Restaurants, and co-hosted by local culinary consulting group The Culinary Edge, will use the holiday and power of social media as a means to raise money to support Japanese Earthquake Relief.

“In year’s past, we have celebrated Foursquare Day simply as a way to connect with fellow Foursquare users and unlock coveted badges.  However, in light of the recent events in Japan we felt that we had to do something,” says Chamin Mills, marketing and events manager at Pacific Catch.

Much like last year, the San Francisco’s official Foursquare Day party will be taking place at Pacific Catch’s Ninth Avenue location with hopes of unlocking a “Super Swarm” badge. However, this year’s celebration is much bigger with an outdoor BBQ, live band, beer and wine booths and 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to the American & Japanese Red Cross to help rebuild those areas affected by last month’s earthquake.

To raise money, party-goers will be able to purchase food, drink, & the official “4sqdaySF” t-shirts:
